Science Bowl

The fearless ones.

That is how we will remember the students who participated in the Science Bowl at Union College.  With zero preparation they managed to dominate the first round of the competition.

Well done to both of my teams. I'm so proud of you...and I still owe you ice cream!

You worked hard!

And admit it, you had fun.

Halloween Class

Which actually didn't have anything to do with Halloween...

This Saturday students went to their core science classes and had public health and nutrition with Crystal.

Bio: Today in Bio with Jjais the students revisted diffusion. They learned all about concentration gradients and osmosis and even did a small lab. Next week is diffusion part two which means a little bit of plasmolysis and some microscope work!!

Physics: Crystal subbed in for Kerron today and the class learned about centripital force.

Chem: Dave's chem class was on atoms and moles. Avogadro's Number anyone...?

Avogadro's Number: The number of molecules in a mole of a substance, approximately 6.0225 × 1023.

In Public Health and Nutrition the students learned how to demystify nutritonal facts using different popular cereals as examples. Today's challenge was to figure which cereals were healthier than others.

The students are building an aresenal to make better health choices.

Today's fruit of the week is the apple. Lucky for us New Yorkers we are well into apple season with too many varieties to list. Apples are high in Vitamin C (good for immunity), high in fiber( good for digestion) and have no fat, cholesterol or sodium. More information about apples can be found here.

So maybe an apple a day DOES keep the doctor away.

We munched on granny smith, gala, and red delicious.
